Strengthening relationships

Council recognises one of the best ways to continue our journey toward Reconciliation is to draw on the knowledge, voices and lived experience of First Nations Peoples to help guide and advise on strategies, programs, and activities.

In this way, we can work collectively to remove barriers and strengthen local Indigenous communities.

After beginning its formal reconciliation journey in 2017, Council developed an innovative Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2020 with the support of the Maribyrnong Reconciliation Action Plan Advisory Committee.

This Committee is now being reactivated and reframed as the First Nations Advisory Committee to work with Council to identify issues and support the development and implementation of strategies to deliver the RAP and positive outcomes for First Nations Peoples in Maribyrnong.
