Revamping your local park

Bellairs Park is a small 1,000 square metre open space in a residential area of Yarraville that we know needs work.

Informed by feedback from nearby residents in late 2023, we've developed a draft Concept Plan

with a number of key improvements, including:

  • a central open space area
  • circuit path and seating
  • a drinking fountain.

The proposed design also provides for natural play opportunities integrated into the landscape to replace the previous outdated play structure. It was removed in late 2024 due to its poor condition and safety concerns, and to meet recommendations set out in the Play Maribyrnong Strategy (2016-26).

We know some local residents like to visit the Park with their dogs and want to continue to do this. To ensure all members of the community have safe and equal access, we’re proposing the area is used for on-leash activity only, with the exception of two hours each morning from 6-8am when off-leash activity could be allowed.

We want to know whether the draft Concept Plan aligns with your thoughts for the future of the park. View the draft Concept Plan and share your thoughts below by midnight Tuesday 18 March 2025.

Draft Concept Plan

The draft Concept Plan aims to enhance the existing open space, create shared multi-use areas, boost community health, encourage urban greening, and reduce urban heat.

The current site

As per the Maribyrnong Open Space Strategy (2014) and the 5-Year Review of the Open Space Strategy in 2020, Bellairs Park is classified as a small local park, designed to support local residents within 200 metres.

Located on Bellairs Avenue in Yarraville, the site is largely underdeveloped with only open space, vegetation and seating.

2023 engagement

In November 2023, we wrote to local residents who live near Bellairs Park, inviting them to complete a short questionnaire on what they liked and disliked, and what they wanted to see improved.

You can read the Resident Feedback Summary in detail, which is located in the Document Library on this page.

We heard from 86 residents, who told us:
