Consultation has concluded
The recently completed Quarry Park Master Plan provides a location for a memorial to honour those who served in the Korean War.
The Melbourne War Memorial Committee has worked with Council to prepare the design which is based around a bridge connecting two nations and includes imagery and information about Australia's involvement in the war. The memorial will be funded by the Melbourne Korean War Memorial Committee and the Victorian State Government.
The design's external treatment includes a hibiscus and wattle motif achieved through the perforation of 17,164 holes representing those who served in Korea. Perforations also allow for the placing of remembrance poppies in the wall. A transition of stone paving from Melbourne blue stone into donated Kapyong stone has been used to symbolize the two nations coming together.
