Maribyrnong City Council has developed a new Draft Road Safety Strategy 2020 - 2030 and Draft Road Safety Action Plan for the next 10 years.

The vision of the Road Safety Strategy is to work towards zero fatalities and a decrease in all crash injuries within the City of Maribyrnong by 2030.

The Road Safety Strategy identifies strong, overarching priority goals that Council will address to work towards zero fatalities and a decrease in all crash injuries within the City of Maribyrnong, and focuses on four key principles:

  • Safer roads through engineering and infrastructure.
  • Safer speeds by creating a culture where the community regards speeding as unacceptable as drink driving.
  • Safer people through a shared responsibility for the safety of all road users – cyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclists & drivers.
  • Safer shared paths and footpaths.

The Draft Road Safety Action Plan outlines key actions that will be implemented to meet the overarching priority goals outlined in the Road Safety Strategy. These actions are categorised into six main themes:

  • Leadership and Best Practice
  • Safer Roads and Streets
  • Safe Active and Public Transport
  • Safe Speeds
  • Community Engagement
  • Working Together
